    Reading Instructions

    Read one of the articles
    1) The teacher will assign you to group A or group B.

Group A read first opinion: "It's Impossible to Outsource Our Decision-Making" by Katherine Mangu-Ward.

Group B read the second opinion: "Technology Can Save Us From Drivers Using Social Media" Jason Mars.

Find both readings at this link: https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2017/01/11/apples-corporate-responsibility-for-distracted-driving

    2) After you read through the article two times, work with a partner to find words and phrases that you do not understand but you think are important for complete understanding of the article.  Use your dictionary and web searches to find the meaning of these words and phrases.  Then use each one in a new sentence, showing your understanding of the word or phrase.

    3) Join a group of 3 or 4 students and discuss these questions.

    4) Join a partner from the opposite group (one student from Group A works with one student from group B) tell your partner about the opinion that you read. Use (and teach your partner) some of the important words from your article.

    https://debateblogling612.blogspot.com.es/2017/07/push-notifications-are-to-blame.html

    Push notifications are to blame!

Cell phone companies have made smartphones addictive to people by using push notifications that alert you every time you get a message. This provokes a psychological cycle that tempts people to check their messages because getting a message. Yes, people have the ability to block this out, but drivers have to pay attention to the road and blocking things like that adds to their mental strain while driving. Whether they block them out or not, push notifications still adversely affect driving. Most people are not conscious of this effect, but if companies turned silenced the phone automatically while it detected movement it would raise people's consciousness to how distracting phones are even if they are not being handled personally by the driver.
